“The View’s” Sunny Hostin Questions Solar Eclipse Link To Climate Change

Sunny Hostin was quickly schooled by her co-hosts on The View after attempting to link a recent earthquake in the northeast and Monday’s solar eclipse to climate change.

Even the Daily Beast described her assertions as “mind-boggling” and “inexplicable.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin kicked off the conversation by trying to link these naturally occurring events to signs of the apocalypse, a joke many have made in recent days.

Hostin saw an opportunity to bring climate change into the conversation despite there being no link whatsoever. And she did this by adding “sick-AH-duhs” – cicadas – to the mix.

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg had to correct her pronunciation.

“It’s the first time in like a hundred years,” she said of the 13 or 17-year cycles of these insects.

Even on that note, Goldberg had to correct her, explaining that the rare event is that those two cycles will converge this year.

Sunny Hostin: Earthquakes + Eclipses = Climate Change

After getting off to a bumpy start, the wheels truly came off when Sunny Hostin tried to interject some, as AOC might call it, girl math.

Mainly: Earthquakes + Solar Eclipses + Sick-AH-duhs = Climate Change.

It’s a simple equation. And she assures the audience that she’s “read” up on her facts.

“I would say all those things together, would maybe lead one to believe that either climate change exists, or something is really going on,” she confidently declares.

I would say that you’re incorrect, Sunny. The solar eclipse didn’t happen because the Moon refused to take part in the Kyoto Protocol. Or the Paris Climate Accords.

With Whoopi actively reaching toward her forehead due to Hostin’s comments earlier, Joy Behar decides it’s time to step in.

“Earthquakes are not at the mercy of climate change,” Behar fired back. “It’s underground.”

Millions of viewers actually get their news from this show, by the way. They hear conversations like this and then form an opinion.

She couldn’t even say cicada right let alone know anything about the weather 🤦‍♀️

Whoopi Gets Her Again

Following Behar’s takedown, Whoopi Goldberg tagged back in and corrected Sunny Hostin once more.

“They’ve known about the eclipse coming because eclipses happen and they actually can say when these things are going to happen,” Goldberg educates her.

Hostin might be surprised to learn that NASA publishes a calendar indicating when the next partial and total solar eclipses will take place.

And, as CNN reports, the next total solar eclipse viewable from across the lower 48 United States will take place on August 12, 2045.

They know this. It’s predictable. And no, people driving SUVs aren’t going to change that date.
